PATTERN NOTES

  • The ch 3 counts as the first double crochet stitch when crocheting the snowman's hat.

DEFINITIONS

Front Post Double Crochet (fpdc): Yarn over, insert your hook from front to back around the post of the next stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through 2 loops on your hook, yarn over, pull through the remaining two loops on your hook.

Back Post Double Crochet (bpdc): Yarn over, insert your hook from back to front around the post of the next stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through 2 loops on your hook, yarn over, pull through the remaining two loops on your hook.

SNOWMAN HEAD

With the color white make a magic circle.

Round 1: Work 6 sc into the circle. (6 sc)

Round 2: 2 sc in each st around. (12 sc)

Round 3: *Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, repeat from* around. (18 sc)

Round 4: *Sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st, repeat from* around. (24 sc)

Round 5: *Sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st, repeat from* around. (30 sc)

Round 6: *Sc in next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st, repeat from* around. (36 sc)

Round 7: *Sc in next 5 sts, 2 sc in next st, repeat from* around. (42 sc)

Round 8: *Sc in next 6 sts, 2 sc in next st, repeat from* around. (48 sc)

Round 9: *Sc in next 7 sts, 2 sc in next st, repeat from* around. (54 sc)

Rounds 10-18: Sc in each st around.

Attach the eyes between the 16 and 17 rows about 5 stitches apart.

Round 19: *Sc in next 7 sts, sc2tog, repeat from* around. (48 sc)

Round 20: Sc in each st around. (48 sc)

Round 21: *Sc in next 6 sts, sc2tog, repeat from* around. (42 sc)

Round 22: Sc in each st around. (42 sc)

Start stuffing the head with the poly-fil fiber stuffing and continue stuffing the head while you work.

Round 24: Sc in each st around. (36 sc)

Round 25: *Sc in next 4 sts, sc2tog, repeat from* around. (30 sc)

Round 26: *Sc in next 3 sts, sc2tog, repeat from* around. (24 sc)

Round 1: Work 4 sc into the circle. (4 sc)

Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Fasten off.

Weave in loose yarn end with a yarn needle.

ASSEMBLY

  1. The eyes should already be attached, and the snowman's head should be stuffed and sewed shut.
  2. Stitch the carrot nose onto the snowman's face by using the long yarn tail and a yarn needle.
  3. Stitch the hat onto the snowman's head by using the long yarn tail and a yarn needle.
  4. Use black yarn and a yarn needle and stitch a smile and an eyebrow onto the snowman's face.

SNOWMAN ORNAMENT HANGER

  1. Make a slip knot and attach the slip knot to the top of the snowman's head or hat by using a slip stitch. 
  2. Chain 20.
  3. Reattach the chain to the top of the snowman's head or hat by using another slip stitch.
  4. Fasten off and weave in loose yarn ends with a yarn needle.

EMBELLISHMENTS

  1. Stitch the pom pom onto the bottom of the hat with some thread and a thread needle.
